The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into future RAN systems will be critical to delivering on the promise of future 5G and 6G networks. AI will also play an important role in the delivery of edge AI services that can unlock new monetization opportunities. A key finding from the Heavy Reading Platforms for Future RAN Systems Operator Survey was that almost 80% of respondents expect new AI/generative AI applications for consumers and enterprises to demand AI native platforms for future RAN systems. The transition through 5G Advanced to 6G will provide significant opportunities for service providers to deploy a new generation of AI native and software-defined RAN systems. This new generation is designed for the intelligence era and will enable an easy migration from 5G.
