Open RAN is a new way to build mobile networks. By disaggregating the base station and introducing programmatic control of RAN functions, there is an opportunity to create more cost-effective mobile access networks that can be better adapted to different deployment scenarios and offer excellent system performance. This is dependent on open interfaces, real-world interoperability, industrialization of the supply chain, and repeatable system integration.
Day 2 of the Light Reading Open RAN Ecosystem Symposium focuses on two of the key technical aspects of open RAN: optimization of the radio chain from RU to DU and the introduction of software-driven operations to the RAN.
