What started out as an initiative to develop a standardized, compact and efficient coherent pluggable module for data center interconnects has spawned an ever-expanding ecosystem of solutions that are redefining carrier network architectures. The 7nm DSPs and optics developed to support 400ZR pluggable modules are being configured in ZR+ modules to support significantly longer distances and optimized for network applications from the edge to metro and beyond. The next generation of 3nm and 5nm DSPs and optics will enable a new generation of pluggable modules that will support enhanced 400G performance and reach, 800G performance, including 800ZR, and cost-effective modules designed for the edge of the network.
As part of the Light Reading Optical Symposium, this session will investigate the opportunities and challenges presented by this developing ecosystem of pluggable coherent modules and solutions.
